About This building, also part of the former National Park Seminary, is the most famous and mysterious. The site of this former girls' boarding school (operated in the early 1900's) is on property that was owned by Walter Reed Army Hospital, until it was recently sold to developers. For years, the building was a mystery, no one seemed to know why it was there, until a conservation trust was organized to promote restoration and spread the word about the history of this building and the others posted today. This building is currently being used as the sales office for the developers and eventually will be converted to housing (condos, most likely) and sold.

Thanks John. This is really an unusual building to find in this setting. I'm glad they found a way to preserve it.

Amazing building, realy that is a fantastic architecture style and a 'target' for me...but never being in places like these, good quality and enouph exposure to support the shadowed side of the building!

I thought you'd be interested, Michele. I'm attaching a copy of an unrestored building so you can get an idea of how decrepit this poor neglected site had become. The neighborhood doesn't really mind the idea of condos because the developers are preserving the exteriors. The alternative was beginning to look like tear down because the building were in such bad shape.

However, it is true that some of the interior elements will be lost, and that is truly a shame.

Thanks for commenting.

All the best.

Very interesting history to this Pagoda - It does not seem to fit and I can understand the mystery surrounding it ..hope it doesn't turn into condo's:((
Very nice framing here , as well as details .

Thank You Maryanne for sharing this with us - I certainly enjoyed all of this architecture series !

Take Care,
Michele~
