I think a tighter crop would have been better for this photo, as there is a lot of rather pointless background. Also I find that a lower angle of view works better with dogs. Imagine this shot, looking UP at Syd's face, letting the head stand out clearly above the back (and also including the front paws), strengthening the impact of that watchful, alert expression. The catchlight in the eyes is perfect.
I like dogs and I'm glad that you are posting all those images of these fascinating, lovely and loving animals :-)
