Thanks for looking Brendon and your historical knowledge you bring some interesting facts. I believe this was the only plane salvaged and at VERY GREAT expense and difficulty, I can not imagine the cost of recovering a B-17. I will be posting more Glacier Girl photos in the next few days. Nice engine detail of a P-38F. So, this is the plane they brought up by small pieces at a time, from under all that ice. Did they did ever bring up the B-17F that was beside this P-38? I used to be a U.S. militay history aviation buff. The P-38F was a popular fighter in the Pacific theater. The Army Air Corp pilots never had enough of them. In Europe, it was a different story. Due to poor performance, air compressility, lack of hyraulic flaps (for driving) and a cockpit heater. The 8th Air Corp figher pilots swear at them. The P-38J model changed all that and the plane performed excellent. But, the P-51 Mustang came into popularity, and was cheaper to make and easy to maintain. My mom saw the P-38's in action in the Philippines. Enough history. Thanks for sharing this photo. I never saw a P-38. Your photo will give some reference in future.
