Why did you called it "Monstruous"? It is a nice little flower who looks to me as being an orchid! I know well that it is difficult adjusting the focus with macros. That is one of my problem. In these the dof is very limited and it is frustrating. And often those nice little flowers are hard to reach, at least the way I do it with close-up lenses. That is real sport and we need to be very contorsionists if we don't want to destroy the nice flowerbeds around them!

Bjorn, I love the softness of this image .. and the grain ... and the shades of white you captured. In my humble opinion, it couldn't be better. Thanks,it's in my favorites. Joanna

it does look like a monster...good eye... i like this rendition better than the uncropped one..there is an actual creature inside..and it comes to life with shadows playing on the different surfaces of the rest of the flowers.. well done.. (i could say a little sharper but then the faded quality also has its appeal)

I like the grain and the soft focus. Those elements add a mood to the photo. This is not just another macro flower shot. This has a "painted" quality. Reminds me of Georgia O'Keefe.

I like the graininess. It makes it feel all soft and warm. Not what I'd want in a "technical" photo of a flower, but if what you were going for was an emotion, a feeling, rather than a true photo of the flower, it's great. MUCH better than taking the photo and doing all this in Photoshop or GIMP. It's all in how you see it. If you want crispness in a flower macro, one trick, if you can get the angle right, is to back off about a foot, zoom in a little more, and refocus. At least, this helps with my 2 Sony digitals and my Nikon SLR. Good luck with it, keep it up, and some day you'll get that shot that you'll look at and wonder if you were really the one that took it.

Regarding the multi shot and technique... Yes I hand hold the camera and then make very small incremental movements after each pull of the shutter. In this case I panned up. It can be done on a tripod of course but this technique works as well. I find the tripod works for those images that you are tying to swirl or make a specific pattern. In this case I was just trying to get a painterly feeling to it. Thanks for looking and commenting.
Now your image! This is a lovely shot of a very difficult subject. I agree it could be a bit sharper but as it is it almost has a painterly quality to it that is not offensive in any way.

A nice macro but it seemt to be not in focus. The grain is disturbing. But I really like the way the picture wakes my phantasy. I see dragons and some other stuff ;-)
