Thanks for the comments, they are very much appreciated!
This is my very first try at arranging a still life - I really like to do portraits - but I'm signed up for the NYIP course and one of the projects is a still. This was supposed to be just to try arranging things and using window light - for fun. I tried to make the objects things that (if to no one else) meant something to me. So, I'm just so pleased that the composition was liked. Maybe I will try this again.....with your suggestions......

Actually the depth is what I don't like about this otherwise well framed image. I don't know what the "assignment" was, but I think this would have worked much better stopped down to , say f22- and without the wine bottle. The glass is obviously your focus, yet the bottle keeps attracting attention away from the main subject. If the bottle was necessary, it might have been better to place it in front of the books - left/center.

Julia, I'm not a big fan of black and white but this one caught my eye. If this is the wrong image, I would like to see the one you intended to upload. I like the DOF in this one. Good job!

oh and regarding the delete, just go into "Member Utilities", then "Edit Portfolio", and you will see the place to delete images. However, you cannot delete once a comment has been made.

Well hello Julie, welcome to usefilm - I am sure you will enjoy this site and learn alot. I joined a few months ago, and have learned a tremendous amount. I have not much experience with this type of shot, but I do like what you have done here, I like your use of dof. I am sure there are many others who will give a better critique than this though :)

Well! My first post here and I've gone and up-loaded the wrong one! Since I can't find the delete, I'll just say that this was taken in the same mind set as the one I would have posted except that this is natural light with reflector and Kodak B&W film. Thanks! any comments would be really appreciated : )
oh - it's not from the Garden either - how about 'Favorite Things' : )
