Tindaris, Sicily. I'd like to thank Francesco Raciti for drawing my attention to this beautiful place!
The Ancient Tindaris is an Hellenic town founded by Locrese and Medmese refugees; in 254 BC it was rebuilt by the Romans. It supported Pompey in his war against Octavian, and was conquered by Agrippa in 36 BC. in 836 the Saracens destroyed the city. Of interest are the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna, the Greek- Roman theatre as well as the spas and the residential area with valuable mosaics, a gymnasium with arcades and a Roman Basilica.
