To be honest - I didn't. I was mess'n around the studio with Kristin, and this is what I came up with. It was nothing more than some testing.
I like it, but never printed it.

Ivan, I'm not sure about what you mean by focusing on her hair. Her hair is part of the portrait, but so is the rest of her face. Not inteded to sound smart, I just don't uderstand your question.
I don't remember the f-stop, but yes, it would have been higher than 2.8. Probably around f8. A PS action was used to soften the image. The original is sharp, but I wanted soft in this one.

Very nice shot, I like the light, the overall softness but have a few things to say: you've focused on her hair, and, correct me if I'm wrong, used aperture of > 2.8f.
Because of it the rest of the face is not sharp, which is acceptable, but it looks like she moved her head for some reason and "blurred" the image a little.
Anyway, I think it is a very stylish image and want to see more!

I like the use of light with the dark strong shadows, contrasting with the soft skin tones. Weird thing is that only her hair is in focus or sharp and from there everything becomes blurier. Thats not really a problem for me, if it werent for her eyes that seem very beautifull and because of the direction they look into they kind of impose themselves on the viewer, and thats why I would want them to be sharper. But still an interesting photo.

I think we're going to be something close to this sometime this week. When I do, I'll post a link in the about section pointing to my site, showing the setup, and the final picture if anyone's interested.
I'll post the image here on UseFilm.com

The lighting works great for me, i like the deep shadows and so forth, very effective work. If her jaw were a little less tense looking I'd consider this one for the portfolio

Thanks Pierre,
I use Novatron Strobes. I was experimenting with my Medium Softbox on this shot. I cut a 6" circle in a piece of foamcore, and placed in front of my softbox. The softbox was on a boom, facing back down at K.
I stood on a ladder and began shooting. I know you only asked the question about the lighting, however; I thought I would mention how it was done as well.
Duotoned in PS afterwards.
