Very striking, ppdix. I remember a bit of similar luck some 27 years ago at the rim of the Grand Canyon where I discovered that what appears to be a single stroke from sky to ground is actually a multiple of repeated strokes over a lowered resistance path from the initial ionization of air molecules from the first stroke. The attached is a 1 second hand held shot; as I was not sufficiently stable to really hold a 1 s exposure with no movement, each stroke left a fresh and distinct image on the film.
