This picture was shot digitally. My thought was to try and think like I do with conventional film and darkroom technique, but instead use Photoshop.
Goal: I was thinking red filter, pushed Tri-X a couple of steps (to increase grain and contrast) and copied on grade 3 or 4 paper with some dodging on the trees to retain some texture there.
Process: The picture is converted to grayscale from the red channel. A selection is made containing everything but the trees, decrease brightness and increase contrast. Invert selection so that only the trees are selected, increase brightness and increase contrast. Unsharp mask. Add noise to try and simulate grain.
