i can't decide if i like the tighter crop better, or if the distant objects simply provide context for the legs...

Definitely think you're on to something with the tighter crop. As was noted, the floor and the table leg above her leg is a bit distracting. I think the tighter crop both simplifies and strengthens the overall composition.

I messed with the cropping a bit.. can't decide if I like it better or not. Suggestions?

Same goes it here. I don't like the floor above her leg, and think a tighter crop would produce a better image, but then again, it might not as well ????
