Cuahtemoc is one of the few tall ships, which has lights on yards. Whenever they are at port, they turn them on during evenings and nights. The ship looks really magical then.
Joe, point well taken. This is exactly the way memory plays trick on you, while trying to describe a picture without looking at it ;) Thank you for your comment. Tomasz
Considering the conditions, dusk - and a ship is not a stable platform, this is great! With a zillion lines coming in many different directions and and globs of light all over this is very sharp for handheld. Your point of focus seems suffucently distanto to have what little DOF cover most of the image.
One small point, the lights are not "on the yards." Yards are the large horizontal spars that support the sails, the lights are strung in the rigging. When looked close, none of the yards I could see had lights on them. Its still a great image!
Great night shot! Bjorn might have a point about the sharpness but I understand the difficulty in taking long exposure shots at night. 400 iso @ f/2.8? did you use a tripod? Nonetheless, I think it?s a great shot, well composed and great subject.
This seems to be a very pretty boat indeed, I agree that magical is a good word here. In your picture, I am missing a bit sharpness. Plus, the fact that the image seems to be tilted is a bit of a turn-off for me too.
