About This is an older photo of mine. The original picture was taken around November 2002. This image was made in early 2003. It's one of my earliest pictures that shows what direction I was heading in. This was all done in the darkroom. It involved making a paper negative by contact printing, however rather than develop it completely, I just splattered developer on it to give it that speckled look... Quite a simple process really.
And to explain my poorman's setup-It included a bedsheet as a backdrop(of course) and a 100 watt spotlight. And of course, the model was low budget too. That's my sister. She works for free!!!

I basically taught myself most everything I know about photography. I Took 2 classes at school, but found that I wasn't learning much of anything there other than the basics. So I went to libraries and read book after book after...you get it...I can't afford to go back to school right now so I haven't done much darkroom stuff since the spring semester, and just recently started the digital stuff. I have a darkroom for pinhole photography, but I can't afford an enlarger so I'm quite limited as to what I can do. I'm really starting to like digital now. However, I think I like the "hands on" experience in the darkroom a bit more. Oh one other thing about this picture. I cocked the neg a bit in the carrier so you can see sprocket holes in the film in the enlargement (not as obvious here as it is in the actual photo-bad scanner).

Thats really cool. My friend and i tried to get the darkroom at our school running but we ended up trying to teach ourselves and didn't really get anywhere. I really like this image. The splatter effect makes it more interesting.
