Thanks to you both. The original is color and yes, I had to downsize, but even in the original the aliasing occurs. I did go back and took some other angles, one of which has less of it (and I eliminated the antenna). I'll upload that one after I downsize it.

Doah..I didn't even notice the Powershot G2 in the specs. Too busy looking at the truck. Reading your comments again with that in mind, it looks like you're ssaying you shot it in hi-res, downsampled it to this version but even the hi-res version had the aliasing. Correct? This was also in a couple of the articles I read, digital camera aliasing. Do a search for "digital camera" and aliasing. One of the suggestions I remember is to take shots from slightly different angles or distances to see if you can minimize or eliminate it. Doesn't help in this instance and I don't know if that works or not (I don't have a digi-cam).

The Powershot G2 is ia digital camera, right? :-). Donald's comments seem to be geared towards those who use film cameras (and therefore need to use scanners to digitize the images).

My guess is that you used your photo editor to downsample the photo and you did not select the anti-aliasing option.

From what I've read, the explanation for what causes aliasing falls into 2 major camps. One is scan resolution (change the resolution, usually to a higher res) and the other is the scanner hardware itself (I know that when dealing with film scanners this is of big concern for what has been called "grain aliasing"). If you've scanned it at different resolutions and the aliasing still occurs, you might try scanning it on a different make and/or model of scanner.

Thanks for your comment, the truck caught my eye, it was parked in the street, with a car right behind it that I didn't want in the picture.
I see what you mean by the aliasing, any idea how I can prevent it? The truck's color is dark grey.
It's not the resolution as the original was taken at high resolution, but the same aliasing occurred.

Oh man..the tones on that truck are awesome. I can't even tell you why, but I love it. Wish you had a better scan of it (you're picking up aliasing on your verical lines that are distracting - antenna, door seams). What color was this truck?
