I read a forum topic with interest about pretty pictures getting more attention. As a wildlife photographer, I take lots of \"pretty\" photos, but some of the ones of which I am most proud aren\'t pretty. Here\'s an example. Last spring, when the colors of the tundra were still a reddish brown, I saw & photographed a bald eagle killing a Dusky Canada goose, which is a severely threatened species. The Duskies only nest on the Copper River Delta in Alaska. That area was uplifted about 3 feet during the 1964 earthquake, permanently changing the habitat, and making it not as good for the geese (more brushy, fewer wetland ponds). So, this subspecies of Canada geese began declining; predation by eagles and bears has further weakened the population. So, that\'s why this image is so important to me. Not because it\'s pretty; not because the colors pop out, but because it illustrates part of the reason the Duskies may soon be endangered, if not extinct.
Nice photo, important message. Hope duskies may survive because every lost of any animal is very pity. We already lost to much! Hope to see many more of your nature photos.
A very important message and excellent capture indeed. However since my heart goes out to the goose (he is obviously still alive and quite defenseless) I prefer to turn my attention to something a bit more happy... a bit more satisfying. Where is that nice sunset?!
