I have been going through tons of photos taken last year during baseball and am trying to think of creative shots that are perhaps out of the norm. I cover a lot of youth competitive tournaments and leagues, but like shooting action and photos that are perhaps a bit unique. In this one, I tried shooting from the outfield back toward the plate after the player on third hit a tripple. The catcher, was ready for the run to home, but never had to make the play - but he was frustrated and the runner was (of course excited). I used a little dodge & burn and converted the photo to a B&W for effect. What I'm really seeking are ideas beyond catching action at second, shooting basic pitcher or hitter action, etc. This is especially challenging with youth baseball as big plays are less common that when I shoot college or above... Ideas?
Wonderful shot. I like how it suggests action took place (catcher is retrieving his helmet, a bit of nervous fidgeting on third), but now there is calm.
