About Driving home late one night, around sunset, I noticed an approaching storm on the horizon. I stopped the car on the side of the road and set my camera on top of the car using a sandbag as a rest.
I set the shutter speed on bulb and used a cable release to operate the camera. I would watch for the most active cell and time the lightning flashes. They were coming about every 20 to 30 seconds. I opened the shutter and timed it with my watch, using an average of 45 seconds per exposure.
I shot 5 rolls of film on this storm, and this was the very last picture. In concentrating on the camera, I had not noticed how fast the storm was moving or how close it had gotten. The tree in the picture was only across the street from me, about 50 or 60 feet away. When this lightning bolt struck, all the hair on my body stood on end from the electricity.
It was time to go!

Now that's real power. Your experience is almost all in the shot itself.

//Thanks for the tip on the Epson R300M photo printer. It's so new that B&H doesn't have it out yet; neither does Amazon...except for the R300. I think I'll wait for the R300M. Do you have one? I'd like to know what the owners have to say about it. Thanks again.

Raymond-hey like Gary said, DONT GET YOURSELF KILLED NOW!! Excellent photograph of the lightning!! I try to capture lightning everytime a storm is approaching. I see one bolt and head outside. I get set up and I dont see a thing afterwards. Good job!
I thought about taking some shots at typhoons but nothing really sticks out. All you see is rain and blowing trees. Seems kinda boring so I didn't take the shot.
Again, very nice photo. Ken

I am so jealous of you photographers that get good pictures of lightening. I havent had much of a chance to photograph many storms yet, but I really look forward to doing so. Very nice picture btw, do you have any more? If so I know I would like to see some more. Thats when a storm is best Ray, when you are right under it! Good Job!
