About I took this photo whilst deciding whether or not to surf at Llangenith beach Gower wales. The wind was an easterly gale, howling 40kts offshore and the surf huge. Very unusual to have such a strong easterly winds.

I cropped the photo tight to include the person bracing themselves against the wind with a sand plume blowing against their feet.

Worms head is a famous land mark, and can be seen in the background against the moody afterlight of the storm.

Great surf shot. Agree that the person makes the shot, and the spray showing us the power of the elements.

Fantastic shot and tones. Almost as good as my one http://www.usefilm.com/image/286367.html ;)

Now the heat is on - better to get on down to 'Gennith to get some better surf shots myself...

Brian thank you for your comments.

I eventually got out and pulled in to some beauties. The offshore made the paddle a lot easier than I thought.

We get a lot of surf on the west coast, with big storm waves in the winter. You'd be suprised at the size of the waves can get on the local reefs (double over head, though you need a good ground swell and light winds.

I'll post a few more surf pictures from Gower soon. Though I find it hard to stop and photograph when I'm 'itching' to get into the waves!

All the best

Dave

Very powerful shot, Dave! Those waves are fantastic, and the person leaning against the wind is the definate finishing touch. You sure it was only 40 kt? It looks way more heavier out there, with the spray being blown right into the air....

Very well composed shot, and the tones are incredible....

Cheers,

Hugo

Incredible shot... I recognise that Gower weather though, my family are from the Mumbles area and we've visted the Gower almost every summer since I was born! The light is amazing in this image.
