About
A small respite from an upcoming floral deluge. Taken post-sunset at the Lonsdale Quay. The red blur is some guy who rode his bike around in tiny circles on the boardwalk for two straight minutes, then left. I'm kicking myself for not going to a smaller aperture and using a longer exposure, but I actually had my camera pointed somewhere else. I saw this guy, quickly repo'd, held my breath and shot it.
PS work: curves, a bit of contrast and cloning out big, touristy placards.
I really don't know what to make of this, so I was hoping you could tell me!
the reason i opened this was because i couldn't tell from the thumbnail whether it was a real scene or not....your notes talk about Lonsdale Quay, but i prefer to look at it as a toy of some kind - a ship maybe....anyway,the biker movement is what makes this image special - next time ask this guy to wear a headlamp and have it on during his rounds around the posts! ;-) one last thing...if you used a smaller aperture and longer exposure you'd probably record a fainter or no movement at all - the image would be empty then,i thinks... be happy Becky, and keep shooting! -kt
Becky, I absolutely love the cool hues in this photo! (cool literally and figuratively :) I am fascinated by the three 'pools' of light here - the bright one from the foreground lamp, the lighter one from the back lamp, and the one in the water from the fading daylight. I also love the way the light drops off so dramatically (but differently) from each! The roundness of the light pools is countered nicely by all the rigid, straight lines in the composition - or maybe the lights soften the lines? Anyway, a great combination! I admit I first went right into text-book mode and was looking to make one set of lines horizontal or vertical, but the aesthetic won out and I can say that it's better for *not* having anything horizontal or vertical! And of course, the red 'ghost'! Truly the 'coup de grâce'! (my aunt used to say that's what she did with the lawn mower...:) What a wonderful sense of transluscent mystery that adds to the shot! If I had to pick on anything, I would say the missing corner of the dock, but I gotta tell you I *really* like this!
