Constructed in 1836 by convict labour the tri-arched and heavily ornate Ross Bridge is one of Australia's finest and internationally should be considered one of the world's most beautiful bridges. Herbert, stone mason by trade, executed much of his fine skills into the bridge's facing as above. Not only that he was also a convict and for his good work was given a pardon and thus become a free settler. His work is found across the island state here and there in all obscure location.
I love the detail in this photo. Can you also get a close-up of one of the figures?? (I don't know how hard that is for you so I am asking.) I think it would be interesting to see a whole "series" if you will on this!! Thanks for posting it!
Great history. I love stone work and would love to see more. I've tried to photograph local stone figures on buildings with mixed results. Well done. Regards Greg
