Channel mixer. Very good and creative way to improve mono shots.
Go to image-adjustments-channel mixer. Tick monochrome box then enter 100 for the red channel and leave the other 2 at zero. Then try the others in turn. If none are what you want try mixing them say 60 red and 40 blue until you get the desired effect. In theory your totals should add up to 100%but rules are meant to be broken.

Danny,

Thanks for your comments.

Perhaps when you have time you can expand on this. I am not sure how to use the channel mixer in this way. I would love to learn.

What I usually do for B&W images is to change the image into grayscale mode (Image>Mode>Grayscale), then adjust the contrast (Image>Adjust>Brightness&Contrast) until I like the result. In this case, I wanted a dark tarmac and dark shadows with detail still left from the paving stone edges.

Regards,
Angelo.

Angelo this is great.Did you ever think to go into channel mixer to get a strong black and white image? Perhaps when you produce stuff like this maybe you do not need to.

Valeu Waldemar.

Yes, I had http://www.magnumphotos.com/LowRes/par/TR3/BUR/WLR6O71/PAR8679.jpg in mind when I saw this.

Not nearly as good, though!

Thanks for the comment!
