This photo has a lot going for it - strong composition, good subject, nice framing.
I'm willing to bet that the original is much stronger than what we see here. As presented, it's a little soft, and the contrast is weak.
I suspect the photo suffered during scanning and post-processing, and that's a shame - it really deserves more attention than it's gotten. You're definitely on the right track, Chris - keep up the good work.
