Linn, Thanks for your nice reply on the subject. You reminded me about that Himalayan cat we took in. He had to be put to sleep (about a year and a half ago) due to kidney problems. He was very old, though we never really knew how old he was when we took him in. Probably about 16 years old when he passed. Anyway, the owners who had him before us declawed him and it was sad seeing him trying to scratch the couch and not getting anywhere. Comical in a way, but I can just imagine how he must have felt right out of the Vets office with no claws. Terrible. His name was WooLoo. We replaced Woo with another Himmy we bought and named him Sir Leo. He is two now.

By the way the 4 kittens are eating me out of home here! :^))

Best to you,
Bill

Thank you Bill :-)
Another reason why I early spay/neuter (ENS) is simply because I do not trust the owners to do it in time. Did you know that some cats in certain breeds are sexually mature at the mere age of four MONTHS?!?! Imagine a 10 year old child having multiple children? :-((( By having the altering done while the kits are with me, it takes a lot of stress out of it because babes leave together and come home to the momcat with siblings. They walk out the carrier as if nothing ever happened. They immediately start eating and playing - what a glorious sight to see.

Another distressing factor is that overseas (and it is a popular practice in America) is to declaw at the same time as altering. Not breeders though, but pet owners are allowing the vets to do this. Luckily in South Africa declawing is almost unheard of, and definitely frowned upon.

Bless you heart for taking in those strays.

Linn, Wonderful montage of such a beautiful cat.
I wish that many folks all over the world would take responsibility for their pets and do the right thing to avoid unwanted cats & dogs.

We have had to take in 8 cats over the past 7 years from the neighborhood. It is very bad around here. Sometimes it feels like we are the only people in our area that cares enough to do this. One of the abandon cats was a Himalayan. It really is a sad state of affairs for these critters that cannot fend for themselves. The ones that come to our back door are the lucky few. Great picture and story with the Ragdolls.

Dear Chris

My 'Dolls all read your lovely, devoted poem and they huddled together and hissed and spat! They have cast a spell over your keyboard and PS programme but luckily could not fathom what a D70 was (they are blonde, you know!) - so your new toy has escaped their wrath! :-))

Hisses and Kisses from the Raglin 'Dolls :-))

Dear D :-)

You could never possibly offend me ... your kind soul would not allow you to do it :-)

I am a staunch supporter of ENS and advocate this practise as often as I can, and to as many breeders possible. There are too many feral and unwanted cats roaming this earth so the least we can do is to make sure that our kittens do not add to the numbers by having unwanted/unplanned litters. I just wish that more of my fellow S.A. breeders would see the light! I seriously doubt whether I would have started this breeding hobby if I was not able to do the ENS!

I wish you were closer so that you could visit me!

Your cats are absolutely stunning. Their eyes and coats are exquisite. I have two myself, not Ragdolls, both rescues as is one of my dogs. I can't seem to help myself when I see an animal in distress. The photos you take of them are just so beautiful.

Hi D :-)
I was one of the first South African cat breeders who started to practise ENS (early neuter/spay). ALL my pet kittens are altered at the age of 14 weeks, before they leave my home around 15 to 16 weeks of age. This is the only way I could ever make sure that none of my kittens are bred with. I have long waiting lists for kittens, and of course my reputation as a reputable breeder speaks for itself :-) Not boasting, just stating facts :-)))

As for "how can you let them go" ... ... when I know I have the most loving and caring home lined up for those little ones, it is easy. I encourage pet owners to visit their kitten on a weekly basis, that way we all get to know each other fairly well and some wonderful friendships have been formed over the years.

I know your heart D ... and want to assure you that I am doing things the right way :-))

(((HUGS)))

adoreable...excellent fun for the new owner to have this shot of her baby as she grew up...how do you part with them...??? I love my cats but could never part with them... =)) I know being a breeder you raise knowing your finding a home for them. I hope they spay and neuter the ones that are not going to be in the breeding program. We have so many unwanted animals in the US that it breaks my heart...

I cannot think what could be worse,
Than people bursting into verse,
When seeing furry things like cats ~
I really think they must be bats!
And cute's a word I'd never use
About a pussy ~ no, I'd choose
A different word! But, then dear Linn,
We'd never let a pussy in!

To be continued?

Phew! Don't know what came over me there for a minute! had this awful vision of cat's hair on my D70, or scratch marks on my best guitar!! But it was just a baaaad dream! Not enough caffeine? Now where's that kettle?!

Kind regards, Chris

P.S. Nice collage though ~ apart from the cats, of course! :>))
