About For K.M.

This is part of an experimental series of dolls I have at home. Again slow shutters and wide aperture, some smoke for effect, cloth, candles and the help of some surfaces which have my favourite Pre-Raphaelite ?like colours and all sorts of distortion ideas.

"compassion to reality" is sourced from the fact the doll is not alive..
"unbearable envy" is sourced from the beauty of this doll..
and I blended these feelings in one sentence.
regards.

you said "compassion to reality conceals the unbearable envy" this is true and quite profound, I do not know how far it is related to my image but I liked to hear it.
pretending to be compassionate realists is a meand to hide envious feelings for some people , among other things of course.
I am the oposite of the realist, I am a new Romantic...i have declared it! thanx!!

My, what an interesting doll collection you have! If you had not told us we would never know that this is not a person.

Hi Mary,

great illusion. Haven't we been told they were dolls, most wouldn't have noticed. Love the mood, reminds me The Sheik with Rodolfo Valentino. The linen texture, the light slightly over on some points and the nice contrast.

The Spiegel series is also a pleasure.

Regards,

Jose Azevedo

Have you received my e-mail?

yes Fabio, every chakra has its use... an effort to exceed basic needs life perception is always an effort to raise k. up to a higher degree of awareness and chakra and clean this one. Self esteem, fer of death and grounding have to do with disorders/or not of the root chakra...
let me be optimistic...

red means sensually sex: the grounded chakra heating all your energies to awake kundalini and make you dance:
mary, this doll is you, I guess

hmm, you are right about the left to right tonal range is fierce. On bottom right, to be honest, I like it this way (I did not do this intentionally)as it plays a game with light (on top) and absolute darkness (bottom)which satisfied me when I saw it. For me, analyzing it now the way I would do with another's photo, this is the difference between the higer part of the Self and the lower one, divine illumination comes to the top parts of the body (eastern philosophies Chakra centers), but still I repeat I had not done this on purpose!! The strong light of the sun behind my curtain made the shot difficult as the upper part needs at least one stop down, while the bottom part at least one stop up! I chose a middle solution, which caused the problem. Thanx!!

Hi Mary, First of all, I find these experiments intriguing. Very creative solutions to achieve a planned effect and atmosphere. I, for one, get alot of inspiration from these experiments and solutions...

The vertical lay out of the shot, emphasised by the converging lines to the top work well together. I only think the tonal range from left to right is a bit too firece, and the dark strip on the right in particular. That unbalances the composition a bit. A few more "streaks of light / transparency in the cloth in that area would've solved that, I guess. Another option would be to introduce a few more highlights in the lower right corner. I think a flashlight would be a very useful tool in selectively lighting specific parts...

Needless to say, I do think this is a very creative and moody shot, and a very well executed experiment.

Cheers,

Hugo
