Thankyou for your comment,I hope you have success with your plants, they are so nice to have especially in the winter when there is not a lot flowering in the garden, they grow very well here even seed around once established. Cheers Micky.

Another really wonderful composition, I love these flowers too, my mum bought me several - but I never got them to survive I have now moved house and on the second anniversay of her death I bought one - it seems to be doing well. Perhaps next year I will have pictures of them! Margaret

Micky, thank you for sharing. It's very, very helpful. I understand your point about wind. I was in Corpus Christi, Texas last week for a meeting. I went for a walk to take photos and the wind was frustrating, even with a fast shutter speed. I began to simply hold the stalk with my hand knowing I could crop later. My wife found these photos very amusing. . . they did look rather silly. Oh, well. Again, thank you for sharing. All the best, Rodney

Rodney I take most of my floral portraits in my living room on a desk by the windows.I prefere to work in overcast conditions because the lighting is more even so I do not have a problem with dark shadows.I also reflect light up into the front of the subject with white card to balance the light coming in from the window. I use a background in this case black velvet, other times different coloured card,or hand painted card. Always have my camera on a tripod. After telling you all this my preference is to take flowers in their natural enviroment, but we get a lot of wind so it is hard to get a sharp result, and also I am finding it harder to get down to the level of the little treasures I like to capture,I think the days of getting down on my tummy to take photos is over:)it is also a lot warmer inside!!! Hope this is what you wanted to know and will be of help to you. Regards Micky.
