About I used my favorite lens combination ( the 75-300mm and the 25mm extension tube) to render the background out of focus and concentrate the attention on the flower.

I adore narrow DOF.
A perfect example of how to do it.

Technical excellence....your trademark! I'm telling ya...there's money in giving lessons. Of course, you have to teach your friends for free...old buddy. .B

Very nicely composed and use of shallow DOF. The focus is squarely on the flower as you'd expect. Tough thing to see is how your background will enhance/distract. I think you fared well here. The yellow splotches don't merge with the flower giving enough contast to enhance your image.

Hi Dan, eventhough I'm not much of a flower expert, let alone shooting them, I do find this one very appealing. Excellent selective focus, and the pastel tones in the background create a very effective framing. Nice crisp colours too, and apart from the rather elaborate background, the compsoition is beautiful in its simplicity.

Nice work with the extension tube, interesting combination, too.

Cheers,

Hugo
