About The bottle test. Main light to left thru 4 paper towels and then 12 inch difuser. Reflector to right. Second light bounced on right reflector (couldn't get enough from the left). Seem to have some trouble w/ reflections on the front - this little bottle acts a little like a fish eye mirror. My thanks to MarySue for the use of the camera.

Good idea Chris if your using Hot lights rather than strobes try one of the diagrams Beverly sent..they work also , a lot of time went into the mods for it...it does take time and patience and seeing the light...keep at it Chris if only you knew how many Bev, DaveY and Mags tried....

Well, sometimes a photographer gets upset when someone sees something that could have been done differently to make the picture better, and I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes. I am quite a disgrace as far as a photographer goes, all in all. But I do love to look at pictures, see how they were taken, maybe in the future...???? I have a wonderful time here at Usefilm and have learned so much. If I can't as yet come up with an outstanding photo of my own, I can at least become a photo (what do you call those who taste wine?:) I know for right now I'm in the trial and error stage of photography, and have a long way to go to have anything that would make someone go WOW! or BALLS! or maybe even YOU GO GIRL!. It may take me a whole nuther year or two, but will always be trying. Your posts and experiments really do help me to see what an image should be and could be. Debbie

and Debbie - why would I be mad at you - you obviously spend a grat deal of time looking and commenting on all
the images. Your comments are always appreciated! And
often spot on.

Artie -
This was me trying to use the diagram -- and getting impatient after 120 shots where I couldn't make it work. It may be that waht I really need to learn is not so much photographic technique, but patience. After a night of thought, and looking again at your diagram #2 (which is the one I was trying to use - except that the light was on the left rather than right), I think my diffused light wasn't big enough and was too close - probably why I couldn't get enough light on the reflector side. I noticed that Bev is diffusing her light through
foam rather than by bounce - may try that as well.

Debbie -
Yes yes yes agree completely. The dark spots at the bottom are I think where the bottle is reflecting the material on the table - and also where the edge of my homemade reflector is. That is one of the problems I was unable to solve. Maybe the bottle should be elevated higher than the lights. And cutting the tag off was an oops... I got the left hand reflector too close and it was in the frame.

nice attempt Chris....follow the diagrams for the lighting and after you can nail it that way than experiment all you want on your own way......

Had to enlarge to see what you were drinking. Hmm...:) I kinda wish you had gotten more of the tag in the picture and that way the right side wouldn't have, I think what I've read it called as negative space? I wouldn't really say you have negative space actually, but wish you had gotten more of the tag. I'm noticing more and more about what people are having such a hard time with lighting on bottles, the more of them that are taken and I view. Like, for instance, the dark shadow to the left bottom of the bottle. Don't be mad at me...????
