Pat I uploaded it to Shutterfly to convert it for myself (only software I have access to that will do that), and in b&w the center looks nearly blown out. Is there a way to "fix" that?

I think this is very sweet. I can't offer anything specific in the way of improvement, but I do think it might look better in b/w.

yeah the tone is aggrivating, it wasn't intentional, I wish I could claim it. It's a lot more muted in person, it's a film print scanned with my crappy 4 year old free scanner.
