yeah. it was shot against the sun, so it was automatically metered as an underexposure; moreover, i underexposed it a bit more b/c i wanted to shot the light/textures of the sidewalk and have a silhouette more for the people sitting. i adjusted the levels mainly focusing on the sidewalk, i'll probably go back at some point and play with them for the sky, b/c i feel its somewhat weak in this image.
thanks

Beautiful gold tones and composition; I don't see how you could get the effect you've got here without shooting directly into the sun which will certainly then be overexposed. I don't think it detracts.

This is a little underexposed. Perhaps if you used an ND filter you would haeve achieved a more balanced image. By the way, I noticed that you're using a 300d, which is a nice little camera, but when you shoot directly into the sun, you run the risk of distroying your sensor. The color balance is a litle off, but nothing that can't be fixed in Photoshop. Good work, keep practising.

thanks a lot for the comment/critique, not too often you get quality advice these days. yeah, the intensity of the sun bothered me too. i snapped this while running back to a restaurant b/c i was late to meet someone, so i didn't have time to bracket the shot. the sun was just so overexposed i really didn't know what to do with it w/o artificially photochoping the white area. i'll play with it some and see if can get anything i like. thanks again for the comment, i really appreciate it.

The thumbnail of this caught my eye. Basically I like it. I think the compostion is great, the lighting on the sidewalk is cool, and the people and boats are well placed.
The one and only thing that came to mind was that the sun seems to be just slightly too intense and takes away from the overall shot a bit. Up to you whether you'd like to pursue toning it down a little.
But, as I said, I think overall this works well.
Congrats\Regards
Anthony
