Dear Hugo,
first of all: Thanks for the lenghty, elaborate and constructive comment. I really appreciate your comments and take them seriously.
I admit that I may overdone a bit with sharpness and contrast. I had this discussion with Lukasz and Antonio before. But don't forget: I was the one standing there, watching the scene and shooting the image struggling with a bad lens that besides it's wide angle capabilites shows some serious flaws when it comes to sharpness, vignetting, haze, coating and color pureness. Melting these factors together I tried to recapture this image in PS, as I've seen it LIVE. the original image is NOT what I've seen and I had no chance to capture that appropriately.
So: I disagree on the topic of the necessity of reworking ;-) This image MUST be reworked to transport my vision on the scene. At least in the eyes of the photographer ;-)
Anyway, as said before: honest feedback like your's is the only way to think about the work. so don't stop shooting ;-)
take care, thilo

Smart comp of a contrast-like image. Great colors and contrasts between the two subjects. The church looks kinda weird, though. Really no PS on that? C.(onfused about the style church)

Hi Thilo, As I will reply to your comment later, I'm only asking you to hold your thoughts, as I think I can understand what you mean.
In this shot, I think you point out the good things quite well in your about text: The perspective, tones, the sky and the combination of old lanterns and the two towers of the church.
As you know, I also appreciate the experimental level, and the continuing quest for new solutions in photography. The approach and the PS rework are an example of that.
And I think the approach and composition are excellent. Scrolling down at to the original shot you've posted confirms what I expected; an excellent shot!
I do not quite care for this rework, though. I find the halo / glare around the church and the lampost diststracting, and I feelthe image is oversaturated. It's as if you were looking for an artistic solution, but although others might (and will) feel differently, I don't think you succeeded at that.
In all fairness, I do appreciate the effort, thought and ideas that are clearly there, which I always find stimulating and intriguing....
Cheers,
Hugo

btw: I don't refer to 9/11, but to Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Sorry for the possible misinterpretation.

Dear Lukasz,
sorry, but I forgot the smiley after the "trust" phrase ;-) I'm open to every discussion about pictures, so don't get me wrong on that.
I see your point. To be honest, the PS work on this image was kind of negligible to me. It seems that this is a personal thing ;-)
I can tell you exactly what I did: - slight work on depths/light areas - slight work on saturation (especially blue) - Use of neat image to sharpen the image and to decrease the grain in the sky
take care and thanks for the valuable comments, Thilo

Dear Thilo, this is not a trust (I trust you) but the way I look at your image and my perception; when I compare the original version with the final version I can see strong work in PS - in the sky, in the tower and around the lamp (maybe this is my monitor and its calibration); anyway, as I said I like your perspective regards Lukasz

Dear Lukasz,
interesting that you don't trust me. perhaps my PS reworks were too hard the last weeks.
anyway, you will find the original image directly from the camera. As you will see, the only change is done by contrast (as the original image is a bit weak here - sad enough but that's the lens).
take care, thilo

Dear Antonio,
you show a great eye - I really added some sharpness to the image deliberately. I may be a tad too hard, but I wanted to bring back some detail that the lens consumed. take care and thanks for the constructive words, Thilo

like the perspective Thilo; but IMHO the colors seem a little bit unnatural here - I can see (or assume that I see) PS work; I would like to see the original version of this shot; best regards Lukasz

the perspective of this shot is outstanding; the title recalls sad remembrance but if one can forget for a while this the enjoable beauty of this photograph can be tasted in a full way; just a word on the somehow strong contrast on the towers which detracts a bit but could be enhanced intentionally, don't know

Dear Kevin,
good point with the differences in actual height. I have to admit that the image could not be done in another way as the lantern and the church are not very flexible ;-) as for sharpness: this comes from the wide angle lens which has problems with the D70. thanks for the constructive words! take care, thilo

I really like this composition but find the lantern is a little big compare to the building which takes away focus of the church. I also find the picture could be a little sharper but I find the colors just excellent. Keep up the good work.
