Poignant statement Jim. Sandals are required too, so I'd add this one here just for balance, as I have elsewhere on UF.

Sincere regards,

Anthony

I like the shot but the two chalk "x's" are distracting... I'm no expert but perhaps this image would work better square?

thanks for not ignoring the war... whichever side your on.

Jim, a poignant, symbolic image, the name tag really personalises the issue. Also, makes me wonder about Cpt Pierre's family, in most situations military families are very proud of their boy's sacrifice for 'country' but right now the appalling spin of patriotism, politics and fear makes such certainties less certain. Of course they will be proud of their boy but may harbour some feelings about the purpose of his death in service, or of course they may not have any such doubts. Good journalism makes the viewer think, and it's sorely needed. I wish so much you had more than a meagre 12 views for this. I suspect viewers also often confuse record with political point making.
I saw a shot on here once called 'Death to All Arabs'. It had comment after comment from people saying it was disgraceful, anti arab, demanding it be withdrawn, etc etc. In fact it was simply a photo of graffiti in Jerusalem bearing those words, with an old traditional Jewish man walking past. It was hugely powerful and I was almost alone in commenting that the image was excellent photojournalism and that people needed to look and think about it before reacting as the message was not what it seemed. Anyway, hopefully the editors might pick up on your work and get you on front page to draw folk in to this portfolio. Thanks for making me think and react, sorry for droning!
Ian
