Thank you so much. I did figure out how to download them using the wizard on Windows XP, it also converted them to a jpeg. There is so much to learn about digital photography. I did notice that the photos seemed to have a different quality. And I'm already enjoying this new purchase, should have just gotten it from the get-go knowing how picky I was when I used a traditional SLR. Thanks for the info & the comment. Dottie

Excellent reflections, Dottie. :) This is a lovely scene.
And congrats on the new camera. In the end you'll be very glad you used RAW, but it takes a little getting used to.
All RAW is is the raw sensor data recorded at the time the shot is made; the conversion software (Canon or PS) interprets it as an image on the computer as opposed to using the in-camera conversion with its associated presets (sharpening, saturation, etc.). So in effect it's a digital negative that allows you to go back to that moment in time and apply the settings you want with no downside.

Excellent shot Dorothy, reflection and composition are superb Congratulation on you new camera As said before raw is a non compressed image, very big in my camera D70 about 36 Mb,you have a lot of information on the picture, and the output should be very good If you plan to make big enlargments this is for you Best regards

Awesome colors and reflections! Beautiful composition. Congrats on the new camera, too. Maybe someday I can try a DSLR. I'm certainly hoping for that day to come soon! Raw, I think, is maybe another way to say an image that is not compressed?? Help me out all you technical wizards!!
