About It was cold that afternoon when we found an hour between meetings to see the Forbidden City. In fact, we were nearly blown away whenever we had to pass through doorways. It made for an empty museum, though. Consequently, the open areas were less cluttered with people.

Picture details: Exposure 1/400s, aperture 10.0, focal length 18mm, ISO 200, no flash, no tripod.

The entire China trip portfolio can be accessed through the ?China Trip 2004? link under ?Portfolio? at the top of this page are through http://www.usefilm.com/browse.php?portfolio_id=11979. More pictures to follow?

These pots (they called them vats) were used to keep water in case of fire. They even could light fires underneath them to prevent the water from freezing in the winter.

Thank you for all your comments

Can't help with the snow, James. But thanks to GIMP, were you thinking about something like this?

Thank you for all your comments. Where in China do you live? Shanghai?

Regards,
Jürgen

Just enough people to give scale to the size of this. Love the natural feeling from the shot. Do you know what those big "pots" are along the walls of the level you are on?

Jürgen, a really nice (almost surreal) landscape, well exposed, lovely contrast and texture. If you had framed it slightly lower (so the buildings were less central, and more land was included), it may have improved the composition somewhat...

jurgen, nice to see you once again avoided throngs of tourists in china. that can be hard to do at the best of times. but i guess cold winter weather is not the best of times :>) had you done this in B and W, that would seem reminiscent of old china to me. better yet, with a light dusting of snow on the ground.

hope to be up in beijing myself sometime soon.

warmest (literally) regards ~ james
