You can see long lines of figures and animals on the gable ends of roofs all over Beijing. They are supposed to protect the house ? the more animals the better the protection. This picture was taken in the Forbidden City.

Our weather was mostly overcast, too (in fact smog), but I was lucky that we got a few hours of sun in the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. The entire day at the Great Wall was sunny, too.

This is a wonderful composition. The colors are superb--so vivid in the bright sun! My wife and daughter visited Beijing a few years ago and brought back some wonderful photos, but the weather was always overcast. This is very refreshing.
