Yes, exactly Den. Submission is when you concede to someone else. But the submissive person usually doesn't look the controller in the eye. If they did then the perpetrator would see there is still fire within the soul. and that is caused from the anger built up and increasing the determination to not let that soul give in.

Beautiful portrait Judi but I think the eye contradicts the title. To me it shows aggression. But I like it all the same.

Luis...not silk, but satin. It is an outift I made her for a medieval function that I converted for this image.

It is complete with gold chains.

Yes for a straight portrait, I belive you to be right. But in this particular case I was portraying a message therefore the coloured eye was necessary to show the fire of the soul. And as you know Stu, the eyes are the windows to the soul. To me eyes are the one thing that I look for in a person. If there is no fire, there is no spirit.

Beautiful work, Judi. I like your idea very much - conveying the fire within through the color in the eyes - after all the eyes are the windows to the soul.

There are a couple of suggestions that came to mind after a long hard look at this image which I'd try if I was the photographer.
1) cover some more face - specially the forehead and the earlobe. Align the edges of the scarf so that they're roughly parallel to the tilted "V" formed by the lashes of her eye. Effectively this will form a tight border around the eyes - highlighting them.
2) slightly burn the highlights of her black garment. While these highlights define texture and contour, they seem to compete for attention with the eyes. I think that burning these will increase the relative contrast between the garment and the eyes and
3) darken her eyebrows a bit - (ok, this is purely a personal preference ;)

Overall, I like your image idea very much. Its conveys far more meaning and depth than the simplicity of its title may suggest.

You know what Judi, you are like a big Mackintosh chocolate box, every time you open it, you get something different, tasteful, full of colours, and a good taste that last for long time, this is how i find your talent and your photography skills.
I like it.

Some of use grew up with black and white TV and mom's who read stories, both of these required you to provide your own color. To me BW shots are an invitation to the imagination. This is a superb shot, she seems to be smiling to herself.

Wow, sounds like you have your hands full. The youngest one is always the most difficult...I think they pick up the bad habits off the older ones a lot quicker..LOL!!

Looking forward to your landscapes.

Ive got a boy and two girls. Gerwyn, he's 14 in March, Stevie, she's 8 going on 18 and Maisy, she's 4 and a mare LOL. Why is the youngest one always the worst one :)

Im waiting for some slides to come back (hopefully today) then it'll be some landscapes for the next week or so unless I can get out in the mean time :)

Excellent composition and accompagnied text.. and you're right, whatever we happened in our life, the importance is to to know that within our soul, we have a fire that help us.. and we have always to think to keep it!!
The black an white composition is superb, with this white background, and the light in the eye, perfect
Cheers Judi
