About The picture of this humble man reading the Holy Quran in Amr Mosque is a very appropriate one to post as these days Muslims all over the world are celebrating our Eid ul-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice).

In the tradition of Abraham's great act of faith many centuries ago, millions of Muslims are preparing to demonstrate their own submission to God by sacrificing sheep for the feast.

The religious ritual commemorates Abraham's near sacrifice of his only son Ismael to prove his obedience to God. But the child was spared and Abraham was blessed, when God sent a lamb to be sacrificed in Ismael's place.

Eid ul-Adha, has become a tradition for Muslims around the world who partly mark the four-day holiday by slaughtering either a sheep, camel or goat for the feast.

Muslims not only eat the meat themselves but distribute it amongst their neighbours, relatives and the poor and hungry.

Eid is a time for thanking God for His blessings and for giving to the less fortunate.

Thank you Khaled Murse Hammoud for this elegant photo of a devout man and for sharing your knowledge of the Feast of the Sacrifice.

This is valuable for all of us in the west to see.

Best regards. Leora

Hi Abeer,
I do the same too, most of the instances I use channel mixer but few others I use desaturation (image/adjustments), coz you know the white in channel mixer is too much and may be not good in some instances making the photo looks overexposed or very soft.
After converting it to B/W tones by either techniques I start to adjust the levels (image/adjustments/levels) and add some contrast (image/adjustments/brightness+contrast).
If I still want to adjust something after adjusting the levels and the contrast, I go the the selective color and then start to add some to the black and grey tones (image/adjustments/selective color).
And as usual if the pic is from the start little blurred, I add some sharpness to it (filter/shaprpen/sharpen/sharpen/sharpen more).
I hope you can find what you are looking to by these adjustments and I'm glad that you asked for my humble advise.
Best regards Abeer, looking forward to seeing your nice photos once again,
Bye,
Khaled.

Love this shot - elegant, intimate, in this case the respectful distance,
none invasive between photographer and subject obvious in the capture
- the terrific frame tastefully appropriate for the shot - a frame framing the framing?
Really good work K - you saw the picture very, very well.
Best regards,
C

Very nicely composed photo, Khaled, and a wonderful and informative 'about'! Thank you for the history and a very happy Eid to you! I like the way you shot this from a low angle, to put the viewer at the same level as the praying man. Great use of the arches and columns of the mosque as an additional frame, too!

Hi Fabrice,
Actually the man was very cooperative and nice to me that he didn't mind to let me capture his photograph while he was reading the Holy Quran.
The other point you said I agree totally with it. In the original picture, the man was centralized but I felt like wanting to crop the bright part on the left side of the image so this made the man to shift towards the left side a little.
Thanx for your valuable comments my friend,
Regards,
Khaled.

Wow Superb!! the composition is beautiful Khaled! The angle of capture that you choose here, with the man in the foreground, and the perspective behind is really well seen. The tones are a pleasure for the eyes as one can see all the details that you captured here.
You had no problem to photography him.. or you used all the power of your zoom?
Just for me, I think I would center the man in the image, but it's only my MHO..
Excellent image Khaled

A beautiful about Khaled, you have made me visualize this festivity and its meaning. you have captured this mans ritual in such a beautiful way, he seems so small against the grandeur of this Mosque. Great lighting and perspective. Have a good Eid ul-Adha. Alison
