Thanks Ken, when I saw the scene I was attracted by the ripples of sand on the snow, on the left, and my challenge is to bring out the ripples and not blow out the snow. The photograph was taken in RAW so I have lots to work with.

I have cropped out the top third which seems to make it more interesting and if I can solve the contrast I will repost it.

Very nice composition with a lot of potential--great texture contrast. But it doesn't seem to cover the full tonal range--did you apply "Levels" in Photoshop? With more contrast, you'd have whiter snow and a richer texture in the wood.
