I like this image because of the various retouching tools you used. I also like the composition I went thru your portfolio and I like it you have good eyes for capturing beauty. Keep up the good work. If you like using effects in your images take a look at www.fotofects.com

Very beautiful. The black and white background really brings out the color the flowers.

Hi Evelyn, I agree with Ray on this. Composition is superb but the first thing I noticed was how the flowers have a dark line around them which seeems to separate them from the scene... Other than that this is an excellent interpretation and very original! Well done!

Thanks for taking the time to think about this image, Ray. I appreciate the analysis and may try to rework this image again because it captured my fancy in a delightful way with those big petals flapping. I need a tree like this in my garden -- this was taken at an arboretum. Hey -- wouldn't a magnolia like this be a good replacement for that one that died in your pot?

Evelyn, I really like the soft pastel pink against the desaturated background, gives the image a kind of hi-key effect. Using four flowers leading diagnolly leading from lower left to upper right creats a strong compositional element.
Only criticism, I might have, for what its worth, is that the edges of the flower petels seem to have a distinct line aroung them, I wonder how it might look if your selection was feathered by a couple of pixels before you desaturated the background. Just some random thoughts, Reguards, Ray W.

Gorgeous magnolias, Evelyn, and an interesting treatment. Ours here have been snowed on more than once, so it took me a minute to figure out that wasn't the case here. ;) Either way, well done!

Thanks for being willing to critique, Nicole. I suspect the whole thing is too busy so the flower flounder and get lost -- is that your feeling? Originally the background was dark so they popped. Do you (or anyone else) have any suggestions?

This one I'm not so sure is as strong as it could be. the isolated color is competing with the busy sketchy background of light and dark.
cheers, nicole
