This gorge represents the northern boundary of the Sprengisandur route. It is a narrow gully west of the glacial river Skjalfandafljot, where travellers rested and grazed their horses before or after crossing the Sprengisandur desert.
The northbound ones had the ghosts and evil spirits behind them and the southbound ones could look forward to facing all those problems. Poems and songs have been composed about The Kid Gorge and the adventurous rides across the Sprengisandur desert. Nowadays people driving across sing them on their way.
Interesting story IR, the place is beautiful and you have defenitely captured it in a very wintery mood, beautifully composed with a great sense of the legend in this shot. Alison
