Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I have been away for a while. As you can tell I have not uploaded any images in some time.
My PhotoShop Technique is as follows.
1. I adjust the levels according to the image.
2. I make a saturation adjustment (-30 to -80). The amount depends on the image.
3. Make a copy the layer
4. I apply a Gaussian blur and I pick a radius between 4 and 6
5. I change the blending mode of the duplicated layer to soft light
6. I save the image as a copy or mock_up. (I never overwrite the original)
6. I use Mike Warren's frame action. Available from Action Central.
