Indeed moody, tones & contrast is perfect. I'd tilt the image clockwise a bit to straighten (Just My Opinion), well captured & composed otherwise Fadel. Thanks much for the comment to my image, regards.

Dear Fadel I have spent about half an hour looking to this great image in a trial to do an imaginary flash back to see how this wonderful home was in it's golden days !! behind this window may some beautiful ladies were preparing the famous ( Mendi meal ) wearing their beautiful silver ornaments with big amber stones , having a strong oriantal perfumed smelling & unforgetable charming black eyes !!! & behind the door there was a seat ( Majles) for some different aged men listening to an old red beard man telling funny wisdom stories of the past days !! love this image & look at it with a different mood , very pleasant mood !! Thanks Fadel for sharing us such remarkable works

Hi Fadel,
That little mental grid trick that I tried to explain earlier in this thread is a lesson that a photographic arts teacher mentioned in class back in one of my first classes. I guess that's why I'll never forget it. I know the logic doesn't always apply, but it seems to an awful lot of the time. It's amazing how much pleasing detail you managed to squeeze into this photo (Home). Try looking at it as 12 small squares. Now, if you go back to the shot with the seagull flying over head with the charcoal clouds and mentally break it up into 12 squares, how many interesting squares will you have? I know the most important thing is the overall effect of the image for sure. But it is an interesting way to assess a print.

Hi Fadel, I think one of the things that you can do in your head when appraising a photograph for balance and depth is to imagine the photo broken up in a grid pattern. Say 10 x 10 squares. If you have detail and variation inside those individual squares, there is a good chance you are looking at an interesting photograph. This shot fits that description. There are textures, shadows, lines, patterns, black, white and many midtones greys all packed together in a nice neat package. Great job. Andre

My bad - you are right, it wasn't crooked. I don't know what makes me feel it's off a little but it doesn't matter because the mood of the shot is still amazing. I am sorry I even thought to question it Fadel - I know you'd have seen something so obvious. :) I'm not being sarcastic.

Thanks Cheryl! I took this one last summer when I was in Yemen. It's really interesting that you felt it is crooked, I thought it was balanced by the house's left edge, but seems I was wrong. Thanks once again!

Very moody shot. When did you go to Yemen? Is that where all your cool landscapes come from (I thought you were in Canada)? It's a little crooked but I imagine you left that for a reason - I always forget to check mine for that but seem to see it in other photos (sometimes I don't care because it will crop out too much if I adjust it). The mood is amazing in this shot Fadel, I really love it. The paint chipping, the tone, everything is so "alone" feeling here.

Beautiful shot. Great atmosphere. The mood seems to be so heavy and depressing, with the sky and the bright white clouds offering the only glimps of hope.
