Aira Force was the subject of a poem written, in 1842, by William Wordsworth. Entitled Airey-Force Valley, it is about the valley through which the water flows:
". . . Not a breath of air Ruffles the bosom of this leafy glen. From the brook's margin, wide around, the trees Are stedfast as the rocks; the brook itself, Old as the hills that feed it from afar, . . . A soft eye-music of slow-waving boughs, Powerful almost as vocal harmony To stay the wanderer's steps and soothe his thoughts.?
Hi Steve If you dont mind i will add you to my friends list... you have some very intresting shots the one above is really nice. I have never been to New Zealand but your shots are making me more intrested. Thanks for sharing. Oh my Partners Alastair Bell hes on used film also if you want to look him up... Cheers for now im off to work till tomorrow bo ho Marie
thanks for your kind offer - I don't think there is anything I need from there - much of my family is still in the UK so I quite often get little parcels of british stuff :)
I would imagine your husband misses many of the kiwi things.. like L&P, Jaffas, Vogels bread etc? Iu know my wife (who is a kiwi) missed those sorts of things when we were both in the UK
Certainly do keep in touch - and thanks for your comment on "Auckland by nite" - the view from my house is reasonably good - though maybe not quite as nice as it looks through a 300mm (480mm 35mm equiv) lens... here is a pic of the view from a wider angle...
Hi Steve thanks for your comment and no i dont mind the criticism thats how we all learn and improve our images, this is a new camera so i need all the help i can get... As you no im from Lancaster but spend time in chorley on courses so i will pass your message on... small world I take it you live in Auckland where my partner Alastair comes from we will be over visiting later this year so if you want anything bringing over from here or taking back to england for anyone feel free to ask... Anyway nice meeting you steve keep in touch Marie
Great to see the pix of the lake district. i see from some of the others in your portfolio that you are a Lancastrian :) I'm from Chorley (the one nr preston not the other 3 or 4!) originally - so seeing many of your images is great for me.
I think that this image has some great colours and tones. i also like the way the foliage in the fg adds depth.
Please do not take this criticism harshly - but one thing i am unsure about is the (choice of?) shutter speed. I think it may have been better if it was a *little* faster (ie the motion of the water would have been 'frozen'_ or a little slower (leading to a foggy, misty effect).
To me - the water kind of looks a little too blurred to be 'frozen' and a little to defined to be 'foggy'
Great to meet someone on UF from back home :)
if you ever happen to be passing "model and hobby world" on owen road (Just over the A6 bridge - not far from Williamson park) pop your head round the door and say hi to Andy the owner from Steve (one of the ex-"Chorley Boys" - now in New Zealand) :)
