About one of my very favourite places on hornby island, Heron Rocks, was awash with wild lilies a few weeks ago - such a glorious site - beauty in a breath. Pure, magical wonder.

hi jorg,

i wondered about cutting off the left petal as well, but when i composed it with the whole flower in, it tended to make the image too central for my liking & therefore took away some of the strength that you so wonderfully worded about the movement in the out-of-focus petals. What to do. Thank you so much for your comments & support - i'm currently printing many of these photos for an upcoming art show i'm in this weekend called "For The Love Of Flowers", so it's been great to hear what works & what doesn't online. Thanks again - all the best - jennifer

Very interesting result, what caught my eye first was the off white of those white lilies which matches nicely with the off black background, nice combination giving the flower imo something enigmatic. On the big pic I like the "movement" of the out of focus petals. They are spread like wings or arms in a ballet and the front one and the one behind seem to be caught in a mysterious pas de deux. Great inspiring picture, I am not sure about the cut off left petal, but since I like the pic as a whole probably nothing major!
Regards Jörg

Wonderful macro!!! Excellent colors, shallow DOF and good composition (but I would've liked a little more space on the left so that the petal isn't cut off....)!! Well captured!!

hi arwa - thanks for your comments. These lilies are very small, only a few inches above the ground so to really see all that they are, you need to lie down on the ground & seek them out that way. In fact, that's one of my favourite places to be - down on my belly with my face in a field of flowers, camera in hand. :O)

Another great example of a soft focus shot. The colors really work well here with the white of the flower and the red and yellow of the stem.

The point of view is very unusual!
Or is it the flower?!?! :-\
I really like the use of minimal DOF and the carefully selected exposure of the white lily!
a wonderful flora image jennifer!

Very pretty shot. Like the earthy colors and the DOF, with the dark space at right. Nice job of exposure with soft lighting for the white petals.
