About How can grass grow in the middle of a big pile of sand is beyond me and says tons about the miracle of life, all courtesy of mother nature!! I had to postpone my trip to the desert this weekend :( -- still have an inventory of dune shots :) -- this is for you Cheryl Ogle, I know you like dunes with small signs of life, there will be a next dune series soon :) PS'ed by lowering ther brightnes and slight increasing of contrast, plus a dash of a warming filter.

THanks for yout comment Manu. Yes, the image needed some work. I tried a variety of shots: 1 with a polarizing, 1 with a warming filter. Still, the results were not that impressive. Interesting landscape, but not unique. In PS I simply "darken" the image and increase the contrast. The textures and lines literally jump at you. here's the original image... RD

Perfect! I love the hues and the ripples in the sand. The grass off to the side adds a lot of interest--isn't mother nature great?
Very well done! :)

Says it all....geometry and color and light...excellent. I wonder what the original image looked like without the warming filter? Did it need warming?

Well done and thanks for your comments, Rafael.

It is amazing how nature will fight to survive. It is so neat to see these tufts of grass in the sand dunes. Great picture.

Fascinating sand dunes... the alternating shaded and lighted lines on the sand together with the orange tone are amazing.
I like the curved lines of shades and the weeds spreaded here and there.
Good work my friend,
Khaled.

Part of the reason I love dunes, is that while we tend to think of them as desolate, they are always full of surprises. As usual, I love the colors and lines. Well done, Rafael. -- Naomi

Hehehe very funny Cheryl. It really is incredible, it completely blew my mind to find grass in this immense pile of sand; but there it was... Glad you like the shot, I am looking forward my last trip to the desert before I leave this part of the world and have a few more images.

Many thanks for your comment AJ, I like how a little manipulation changes the original image perception. I kind of intended to have the darker lines, but after reading your comment, I can see your point of view. Thanks for the observation... -- R.

OH!!! Thank you for thinking of me. :) You do know how I love the little suprises in the shots. I just love the feeling of survival with the grass in these shots. I think - "wow, how the heck did the grass grow there? I can't get grass to grow WITH water here!" :)
In this shot - I love the sunlight and the shadows too. Very warm light in this. Great shot my friend!

It looks like a big rolling ploughed field! I like the lines and shadows but find it a little too dark for my taste.
