About Scattered all over Britain are these castle-like structures, landmarks in their own right and symbols of the importance of the water that lies beneath the ground ready to be transported around the region. The range of designs could form a photographic book in its own right!

This one in the English Midlands was erected on the top of a hill in the 1930s and is a familiar sight for miles around.
