John, may I suggest you visit the powerretouche plug-in site, download the trial set, and play with "dynamic range compression"? If the shadow detail is there at all, this amazing plugin will help you recover it. Although I love this shot, I can't help regretting the solid black shadows (solid on my screen, at least). I see you've beaten the dreaded Usefilm cruncher/sharpener.
