Thanks for congrats and comment...to me, the value of awards here is that it attracts more than my average 10 or so commenters which gives me an opportunity to discover new-to-me photographers and get a better read on my images...and yes,many of my images are darker/moody,but i like to mix it up now and then ;> ...always enjoy your feedback!

Majestic it is Gayle. How did I manage to miss this? Been asleep lately. I notice your more recent images have been quite emotively dark and this stands out in your portfolio like a huge emphatic full stop. The BIP is equally emphatic and I'm pleased for you as I know what something so simple can mean to us. Funny, on this site, it seems to really count, on others I care not. What you've managed to achieve here is like a movie still, an evocation of daring and exploratory times, and you do justice to the work of those who painstakingly restore these vessels. Thanks,Margaret!...was so excited to see the award today especially since this is my first time shooting these majestic vessels and the light was fading quickly!...had to walk a looooong way to find them because i parked at the wrong end and couldn't find a closer spot later...poor rivvie pup was very patient waiting in my car while i got my exercise!

Beautiful shot! Since there are 3 square-rigged masts this looks to possibly be a barque, maybe the Endeavor replica which Australia commissioned for the US Bicentennial. The Endeavor was the barque James Cook commanded on his sail through the Pacific.
I love how you framed your shot so the drama of the masts silhouetted against the twilight and the unfurled sails hanging from the yardarms look like sentry flags relieved on deck:
"Red sky at night,sailor's delight;Red sky in morning, sailor take warning." Obviously this shot is a "sailor's delight"!
