About Central = Lights. The Hong Kong skyline by night has lots of them. In my opinion, there is no other skyline so photogenic as this one. The number of lights and the very high density of buildings makes it shine at night. I think it's simply awesome.

On the other hand getting a good shot here (from the Kowloon side) can be difficult as there is a LOT of boat traffic and the weather is often inclement. Timing needs to be just right.

At any rate, this one turned out ok and is my first upload with my new D70 camera. I have this same view in my portfolio taken previously with my Fuji S7000 for comparison. Hope you like it.

Exposure info: 1/1.3s f5.3 manual mode, Neat Image applied for noise reduction.

good weather is the key in hong kong alberto. unfortunately, i have rarely found it to be good when i'm in hong kong. will be going there tomorrow to get a new visa for china, without my camera, so i'm sure the weather will be fine tomorrow.

best wishes ~ james

Ah, one of my favorite views. It always seemed that I was never around at the right time to take this picture, or it was too foggy, or some other reason. You have done a great job here capturing the skyline of Hong Kong. I think I know exactly where you took this from too.

Anyway, a very nice shot and well exposed. The blue sky is perfect for showing off the lights. You caught it at just the right moment in time.

hi john, you're right, i've thought of reposting this with less water. however, since i will be in hong kong again tomorrow perhaps i can do another shot of the skyline.

thanks for your comment. james

Superb shot. Haven't seen HK for a while and would love to get back there. I think the saturation is just fine. I know the lights look nice reflected in the water, but I feel the balance of the image would be better with a little less water/little more sky.

hi fan, i took it from the place in kowloon near the star ferry terminal where everyone gathers for photos of hong kong in the evening. in this photo, in retrospect, i think i've shown a bit too much water. should have given it a more panoramic look to eliminate some of that. might try it again in the future.

Fatastic shot. Like the dark blue sky at dusk instead of black. Timing is the key as you mentioned. It seems that you took it from hotel Regal something. just guess.

This is just fantastic. Later this week I'll post some of my images of Hong Kong. The place has really grown up and you have done well to document it.

Looking at this again, it is intense. And beautiful, with the lights against the deepening blue sky and reflected in the water.

Congrats! Leora

A defenite neon skyline, it is very beautiful and you have captured it beautifully. The color in the sky is just as intense as the lights themselves. Alison

hi paul.... if you've been to HK you'll know that the city is lit up like this especially for the myriad of photographers that line up on the Kowloon side to take photos of HK island. A lot of the lights go out after 8 pm. At any rate, HK really does look like this and the D70 (and my S5000 previously) caught it nicely. Honestly, i added little saturation.... :>)

warmest regards paul ~ james
