Hi Matej,
No, this is the only time I have used this technique. Maybe you can guess, but I'll state the obvious and say it is quite time consuming. Normally I'd much rather spend the time *taking* photos, rather than fiddling with the mouse :)
However, in this case, I had four or five shots of this paper. I liked them, but felt they weren't strong enough to stand on their own. I wanted to make the result more abstract. I'd already tried simple collage work, so I decided to try and see what I could do. This is definitely a one-off. At least for the time being!

You haven't posted any other photos using this technique since posting this one. Have you made any? If so, I'd like to see them, at least as attachments underneath this photo.
The reason I ask is that while a technique can be quite fascinating per se, I suppose one of the questions one should ask about any technique applied to a specific image is, does that technique enhance the subject or not (and if not, is the effect neutral, or does it actually take away from the subject). As you could tell from my earlier comment, I wasn't convinced about the technique-subject match in this photo, but I am still curious how it would work with other photos.
BTW, is there *any* kind of work that will please everyone? And if so, is the existence of such work desirable, with all that it implies? :-) I'd say the most important thing is, does it please the author! At least that's what has worked for me so far :-)

Thanks for the honest critique, Matej. This type of work will never please everyone :)
The blur is natural. Imagine I had printed two photos, cut them into strips, one vertically and one horizontally, then interleaved those strips, as if weaving a basket, and photographed them. That's what I did "digitally". Here's the pink part, in the original.

I don't like this one - aggressive colours, seemingly artificial blurring in the pink-brown sections in the left half, irregular (non)alignment of regular rectangles. It doesn't make sense to me as a straight image nor as an abstract. Maybe if I saw this technique used with a different photo I would get the point, but at the moment I must be missing it completely :-)

Thanks for that, Elizabeth. I don't think I could have used that filter, since it is for overlaying a weave pattern on a photo. My work here was to combine two photos, and I wish there was a filter/action to do that! :)
Thanks for all your help.

Angelo; I answered your question on my photo, don't know if you got it. This was quite a lot of work. Good job. Mine was done with a filter called "basket weave" You can find it in Paint show pro 8. You would have to stitch all your photos together, then overlay the basket weave. You can make the strips different size, and the little things (squares) I forget what you call them, different colors and different sizes. I prefer black. I tried to center the eye on my photo, that's a little challenging, but I was happy with the results,,Let me know if I can be of anymore help. I would be glad to..sometimes I don't keep notes. How does one fine a email address on this site? I couldn't find yours.. Mine is lizymile@comcast.net I was trying to upload another version, but it would not take it.

Thanks, Alastair.
I wanted to reproduce exactly what would happen if I had printed the two photos, cut them into strips and meshed them.
I'd certainly like to learn how to do it better. It's my first attempt at something like this.

Interesting idea Angelo - vaguely reminiscent of a kaleidoscope. I think I would prefer t if there were no little white bits in the corners of the joins and perhaps if the segments were aligned on a perfect grid. Cool experiment!

That's good to know, Chris. I won't wrap your birthday present with this kind of paper, then :)
I took about 4 macro photos of this reflective paper. They were nice on their own, but I wanted to try and create this tassled effect.
