About Each year on 1st of August Switzerland celebrates its national birthday..

On 1st of August 1291 the people of three regions in the mountains signed a letter to liberate themselves from Habsburgs bondage for freedom.

To communicate this event to all the people there they lit fires on the hills as soon as the sun was down.

This custom to light fires on each hill is still celebrated on 1st of August, enriched by modern fireworks.

I took this picture from the roof of my house at about 10:30 pm using a tripod, cropped it and made a frame around it.
