About This is taking the concept of the previously posted "RainStar" one step further: the original image has itself become the subject of refraction in the water drops.

If you didn't see the previous images, "RainStar" was coloured pen tops photographed through water drops placed on a sheet of glass above. The glass was treated with Rain-X first to improve the water beads. No PS was used.

I then printed "RainStar" and photographed the print through another set of water drops.

one could easily mistake this wonderful picture for a digitally created image but the fact it is made with traditional photography by a highly creative and rather skilfull artist makes it even more spectacular!
be happy mrMiller :)

Hi Hugo! The background is my previous image "RainStar II". I use an overall background behind everything of black card. The soft focus is something that has been bugging me with all my macro images. I no longer trust the autofocus on the A2 or what I see in the viewfinder when working on complex images like this one. Instead I've now set up a focus card which I place at the point where I want the sharpest part of the image and focus on that manually first. (Just a piece of card with "Focus!" printed on it - but it's much easier to judge whether the image is sharp looking at this than looking at lots of bubbles and colours...) Unfortunately I didn't use it for this one! AJ

Hi AJ, I really like this; the repetition of the bubbles as well as the colourful pattern works very well here. It does look a wee bit soft on the foucs, compared to the onther ones, but the gradient in colours is excellent, and make it stand out, too. That Rain X is definately something to think of when plaing with water, very good tip. Just out of curiosity, what did you use as background?

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hakan! Really no PS, except a little cropping on the left to remove a partial droplet and for creating the frame (in fact using PSP9). AJ

I re-read your bio, John and I think that now others can learn from you, at least judging from these three excellent abstracts you posted here, explaining how you achieved them.
Thank you for your very kind comment on my "Sunstripes." You're right in assuming it's a tribal carpet. It was originally done by Bedouines.
Best regards,
Rafi
